Precautions against snatch-thefts

Snatch-theft are now increasing to around thirty a day or 16 000 a year throughout the country. Apart from the cases of deaths and injuries, most snatch-thefts victims are traumatized by the events. The victims will always walk in fear. The psychological scars will also take a long time to heal.

Snatch-thefts usually take place in places like bus stop, commuter stations, along the main roads and housing estates. Many also take place in lonely, deserted places> The natch-thief usually rides on a motorcycle and is often with an accomplice.

There are many things you can do to prevent your handbags from being snatched by thieves. The first precaution to take is to keep your valueables out of sight. Do not wear jewellery. You must also carry your handbag or sling bag on your shoulder that is away from road.

You need to stay alert and follow your instics. Avoid Taking short cuts through deserted areas. If you are alone, avoid dark corners, alleys and doorways. If you are robbed, try to remember your attacker’s face, the licence plate number and the make of his vehicle. Lastly, report all incidents of snatch-thefts to the police.
